The 1 Little Richard song: Tutti-Frutti

Troubles like family matters, needing debt settlement help and even car troubles seem tolerable the minute you hear this track and get lost in the melody. Little Richard’s blazing performance sweeps you off your feet, whether you like it or not, and puts a smile on all our faces every time the song is played.

2. The Girl Can’t Help It

3. Slippin’ And Slidin’

4. Ready Teddy

5. Send Me Some Lovin’

6. Keep A’Knockin’

7. Rip It Up

8. Lucille

9. Good Golly Miss Molly

10. Long Tally Sally

You might disagree with him claiming to be the sole architect of rock and roll, but it would be foolish to think that Little Richard is any less deserving of his place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as a result. As it stands, he may not have “invented” rock and roll but he certainly took the genre and made it his own with his explosive performances and mind-blowing charisma. His songs can be heard almost anywhere and are just as recognizable as anything from the likes of Elvis Presley or the Beatles. This is a list of his top 10 songs that we feel not only defined his career but the genre of rock and roll as a whole.

Guns n’ Roses was a band which should have had many more hits than they did. From Axl’s driving vocals, to Slash’s virtuosity, they revolutionized hard rock. By bridging the gap between blues-driven rock such as Aerosmith and heavier metal such as Metallica, they forged a sound that was raw, passionate, and talented.

As we approach the 20th anniversary of the “Use Your Illusion” albums, let’s take a look back at some of their greatest hits:

Welcome to the Jungle: The track that started it all. It’s difficult to not feel the rush when you hear that first riff. For many, it’s the quintessential Guns n’ Roses track. Combining Slash’s prowess as a guitarist as well as Axl’s intensity, it set the stage for the band’s energy as a whole.

Sweet Child o’ Mine: Also from Appetite for Destruction, this was on the lighter side of things. Showcasing the breadth of the GN’R's capability, it let us know that these hard rockers had hearts too. Slash is put on display during this track as a ferocious talent.

Patience: One of my all time favorite tracks. This is quite opposed to the band’s usual nature. Where we would normally hear driving guitars, we hear gentler, acoustic guitars. Paired with a calmer tempo, and subtle musicality, tracks like this set this group apart from others of the same era.

November Rain: For a lot of fans, this was the beginning of the end. At nearly nine minutes, his is the longest song to ever hit the top 10 and the band’s last top 10 hit. Fans had a difficult time seeing the Guns n’ Roses they’d grown to love through the piano and rich orchestra. In addition, the era of epic ballads was essentially over in the realm of rock n’ roll.

This is a very short history of one of the greatest, most talked about bands in rock n’ roll history. In my opinion, some of the less renowned songs by this group are some of their most developed. Do yourself a favor and give it a listen. There’s a reason why there’s been almost 20 years since their hey-day and we’re still talking about them.

Hands down the greatest American guitar hero is none other than Mr. Jimi Hendrix. Jimi Hendrix was also one of the biggest musical icon of the 1960s. Many guitar players before him experimented with distortion and feedback, but Hendrix turned those effects into a new language, one that he was very fluent in. Although Hendrix’s style consisted mostly of rock, however he also created tender ballads. Hendrix did not consider himself a good singer, but his vocals almost rivaled his guitar playing skills. You can find a quick rundown here

Hendrix’s craftiness with guitar sounds has been widely mimicked. His songs inspired many albums, and were recorded by several different artists. Hendrix’s musical talent had a profound effect on many musical greats, including Miles Davis. Hendrix’s performing style was very entertaining. He would often show off during his performances by playing the guitar with his teeth or behind his back.

Hendrix was very experimental. He often collaborated with many other musical artists. He quickly became hailed by Rolling Stone as the greatest guitarist of all time. Almost every note he recorded has been featured on over 100 albums. Hendrix won almost all of the most prestigious rock awards during his lifetime. After his death, he was inducted into the U.S. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Deciding on the best American hard rock bands is certainly not easy. Of course, when looking only at American bands, you do at least cut out a lot of great bands from other nations such as Deep Purple and AC/DC. Still, you are left with a huge number of great bands to choose from.

The top of the list almost certainly belongs to KISS. Paul and Gene’s theatrical troupe of glam metal rockers are still going strong today, leaving behind a trail of classics hits. San Francisco Bay area thrashers Metallica changed the face of heavy metal with their groundbreaking sound. Aerosmith, despite some ups and downs caused mainly by substance abuse, came back stronger than ever to become one of the 90′s biggest bands.

Other great bands include Alice Cooper, whose over-the-top stage show paved the way for KISS. Gene Simmon’s played a part in Van Halen’s rise to glory. Guns N’ Roses solidified Los Angeles’ reputation as a rock mecca when they hit the scene. Of course it was Motley Crue that first made America take notice of the Sunset Strip. Finally, Pantera gets a nod for showing the world that Texas knew a bit about speed metal.

The southern rock sound is as distinctive as the sound of California rock. With just a hint of twang in both the music and lyrics southern rock gives the rest of the world a glimpse of how southerners think and feel. The Allman brothers are one of the best in southern rock and their roots do show in their music. Like a lot of southern groups their lives are shown to the world through the songs they sing.
The Allman Brothers Band was started in Jacksonville in 1969 and released the critically acclaimed album “The Allman Brothers Band” and were one of the last bands to play at the Fillmore East before it closed in June of 1971. Their album “At Fillmore East” was rated at number 49 in The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time by Rolling Stone magazine.
Unfortunately the beginning of the end came with the death of Duane Allman in a motorcycle accident in 1971 in Macon, Georgia. The band tried to soldier on with Dickie Betts taking over for Duane but infighting and drug abuse took it’s toll. Many reunions tours have formed and gone by the wayside but their music will live on forever.
